Google is trying to provide the best answer to its users’ query. Sometimes, the best answer is a single fact that Google can provide directly from its Knowledge Graph.
We usually see this in answer boxes right at the top of the SERP for informational queries. But for Casey DeSmith’s Brand SERP, it is present in People Also Ask. That’s a groovy search experience for users but what could this mean for brands or entities taking care of their Brand SERPs?

Hi, I’m Jason Barnard. I’m the Brand SERP Guy and today, we’re looking at the Brand SERP for Casey DeSmith, who is an ice hockey goaltender. And I love the word goaltender because if there’s one thing you need to not be, if your end goal in ice hockey is tender or sensitive. But less of the silly stuff and onto the Brand SERP. He’s got a typical sportsperson’s brand SERP with lots of information about him.
Lots of stats down here, the other Penguin players, other tip players from his team. USA goalies, if we’re interested in those. Lots of helpful information, but what caught my attention was the people also ask. Now, why did it catch my attention? Because usually we expect to see a short answer with a link through to a site.
And here, Google just gives the answer with a link through to Google’s own SERPs. So what’s interesting here is Google now has got to the point where for simple questions like this, it’s simply answering them itself and there’s four in a row I think we just saw. Amazing stuff! And that’s the first one where we actually can click through to another site.
So as time goes by, these people also ask for the really simple questions are gonna become answer boxes or equivalent of answer boxes that you often found at the top of the SERP when you search for something incredibly specific like that. So these opportunities are going to drop and the opportunity for you to be able to control it with your own site, with a link through to your own site are going to drop.
And it’s a really good idea today to start educating Google. So it understands these facts correctly so that when it does put them in there, they are correct. They are accurate and they are helpful to your audience when they search your brand name. Thank you very much.
