An Image Carousel with Video in The Croods’ Brand SERP

On a typical Brand SERP, image boxes and carousels contain images… but for movie Brand SERPs, Google is mixing it up.

On The Croods’ Brand SERP, the first thing you’ll see on the carousel of images is an image with a play button that, when you click on it, Google sends you to the movie trailer clip on YouTube. Groovy!

What should we look out for in this special feature? Watch until the end 😉

Transcript:

Hi, I’m Jason Barnard. I’m the Brand SERP Guy and today, we’re looking at the Brand SERP for The Croods, a 2013 film, as we can see from this top result. Next, we see the cast very high up on the SERP, this entity carousel, rare that we see one so high up the SERP. Google must think we’re incredibly interested in who played which character as we scroll down, we can see the questions fairly typical trailers and clips.

Absolutely normal for a film. Some top stories, but what caught my attention is the image carousel incredibly interesting to see over here on the left that we have, what looks like a video in the image carousel. And you would expect because it’s an image carousel that you would click through and see the image for the trailer.

But in fact, you click through and you see the trailer itself. So what Google is now doing for some reason is mixing up images and videos in the image carousel. Very interesting. Perhaps something to look out for the future across all sorts of brand SERPs, but particularly in the entertainment industry. Thank you very much and I’ll see you soon.
