Geo-Sensitive Vocabulary for Liverpool F.C.’s Knowledge Panel on Google

How great that even in Knowledge Panels, Google is vocabulary and culture sensitive. In London, Google describes Liverpool F.C. as a “football club”, which is what Londoners would call it. While searching from a different geo location – New York – it changes to “soccer club”, which is what New Yorkers would call it… Groovy!

Kalicube’s #DailyBrandSERP  August 21st 2021 presented by the Brand SERP Guy, Jason Barnard.

Transcript:

Hi, I’m Jason Barnard. I’m the Brand SERP Guy and today I’m looking at the Brand SERP for Liverpool FC. I used to go and see them back in the 1980s that was before the internet. So none of this was around at that time. Very different today. You can see really up-to-date information on Google right off the bat, just by searching the name.

The intent is clear. I want to know about their latest football match. Upcoming football matches, the latest news. We’ve got the top stories, obviously their home page, very important, but also their Twitter feed, Facebook videos, all of this incredibly recent. Recent photos, YouTube channel. That’s brilliant.

What I find interesting here though, is this. It’s a football club. That’s what I would call it, but I just searched in London. If I go on search in New York, it says soccer club, even in the knowledge panel, Google is getting pretty smart at figuring out the words, the vocabulary it needs to use: country by country, culture by culture.

There we are in New York. Thank you very much.
