Knowledge panels are INCREDIBLY important for celebrities like Julia Roberts. Claiming and controlling that knowledge panel is essential to managing her online brand image – it is the first thing her fans see when they google her name! Here, a fan named Linda built a fan site for Julia Roberts and, although the site has been closed, Google sees it as the official site for Julia and will allow Linda to claim Julia’s knowledge panel. Additional fun trick – the site (aboutjulia.com) is closed and has no content. How did I know it was a fan site and not official? Simple, I used the WayBack Machine of course 😉

Now, aboutjulia.com could be Julia Roberts’s own site. But in fact, it’s not, Google’s got it wrong. It’s a site run by a fan called Linda. How do I know she’s just a fan? I looked on the Wayback Machine and we can see clearly here it’s a fansite. So, Google’s got this wrong. And Julia Roberts’s fan, Linda, could take control of this knowledge panel in a few seconds.
