Own This Business? Has Gosh! Comics Claimed Their Google Business Profile or Not?

Google Business Profiles often offer the user the opportunity to suggest edits and even claim the listing. Google wants to get information from all its users, but also verify the facts in the business listing by the business owner themself.

Gosh! Comics have already claimed their Google Business Profile and yet the panel still contains the “Own This Business” link, suggesting they haven’t.

From a customer’s perspective, seeing this seemingly unclaimed business profile may affect my trust since the stated facts don’t seem to have been confirmed by the business itself.

Watch until the end!

Hi, I’m Jason Barnard. I’m the Brand SERP Guy and today, we’re looking at the Brand SERP for Gosh! Comics. Now, delightful Brand SERP here at the top. We have an experiment by Google with these Vertical Sitelinks, which I quite like. I’m not a hundred percent convinced but you know, why not? I quite like it and not Google cares whether I like it or not.

And as we go down, they’ve got some great reviews. This is a really nice local Brand SERP. And if we move over onto the right-hand side, we can see their Google My Business with absolutely boatloads of reviews there.

Customers are obviously big fans of what they’re doing. I think comic fans are, generally speaking, incredibly keen on what they’re doing and a company or a local shop that does a really great job and that sphere is always going to be greatly appreciated, so Gosh! Comics must be great.

And we can see at the bottom their are lots of other comic shops in the area. But the point today is just this tiny detail here. I see this all the time, ”Own this business” and you can think of well, maybe they haven’t claimed their Google My Business. But in fact, they have. And Google are simply saying, if you want to get access to it, here’s how you do it. You can ask the owner for access. I’m not sure why they would do that?

Personally speaking, it doesn’t seem very logical because it does look like from the outside, this business hasn’t claimed this Google My Business or Google Business Profile. And therefore the information might not be accurate, but that’s Google’s choice, that’s Google’s prerogative.

So, if you see ”Own this business”, it doesn’t mean that the business has not claimed their Google Business Profile. It just means, Google is offering everybody the opportunity to ask this business to get access to their Google Business Profile.

Thank you very much and I’ll see you soon.
