Why Doesn’t Good Day Cafe Have a Thumbnail on their Brand SERP?
Key Moments in episode 156 of the Daily Brand SERP series:

00:08 Good Day Cafe’s Brand SERP on mobile
00:28 Their website doesn’t have a thumbnail
00:46 Practical Tip: How to stand out their own SERP with a thumbnail?
Google loves to put images on mobile. And in Good Day Cafe’s Brand SERP, there are a lot of bluelinks with image. Groovy!
Good Day Cafe’s bluelink stands out, not because they have a very eye-catching thumbnail, but because they don’t have a thumbnail at all!
Curious about why this site doesn’t have an image in the SERP, I inspects the homepage and its source page. I finds out in their HMTL that they haven’t identified the image that Google might want to use for their Brand SERP.
So here, I suggests three relatively simple tips for this site to stand out on their own SERP with a thumbnail. 😉
Watch until the end!

Transcript:
Hi, I’m Jason Barnard. I’m the Brand SERP Guy and today, we’re looking at the Brand SERP for Good Day Cafe. And it’s a lovely local business Brand SERP with the Google My Business at the top.
There we’ve got how busy it is, which is Tuesday right now. So I won’t be going and having a coffee there. They’ve got their own website, Facebook profile with some great reviews. Absolutely lovely. And lots of images there as you can see on mobile, Google loves to put those images on the right-hand side on mobile.
And that’s what I want to focus on today, because if you can see here their website stands out because it doesn’t have an image and they really could quite easily get that image here.
So, what I wanted to do is look here at their homepage, which looks great. It’s got some images in it, perhaps not that that isn’t the one they want on their Brand SERP. But, they could potentially suggest an image and what they haven’t done here is in their HTML, we can see they haven’t identified an image in the head.
They haven’t identified which image Google might want to use for their Brand SERP. And they can do that either with the OG value in the metas or the Twitter image value in the metas or the schema markup primary image of page. So that’s three ways that they could relatively easy get an image from this home page onto this SERP and help their own site stand out a little better from these other sites below.
Thank you very much and I’ll see you soon.
